La Salle University’s brave college journos: After being told that they couldn’t run an embarrassing story (involving a professor, a business seminar, and “strippers”) above the fold, the staff of the school’s newspaper — who already had to fight tooth-and-nail to run the story in the first place — decided to protest the university by running the entire front page below the fold, making the story even more noticeable as a result. “The truth is that we got there first,” the staff wrote in an editorial. “Our hands were tied, but that is a fact that the staff as a whole has come to accept, albeit begrudgingly.” These guys have balls. $65 for a necklace? Ouch. But if I ever did become a journalist, I’d totally wear it at work.

Wisconsin Senator leaves wife for mistress; wife supports recalling him
- plan Some protesters in Wisconsin marched to the house of GOP State Sen. Randy Hopper, a Walker ally who will likely face a recall, to confront him about his anti-union policies.
- surprise! Upon arrival, Hopper’s wife informed them that the Senator had left her for and was now living with his 25 year-old mistress. Perhaps unsurprisingly, she also supports his recall. source

Okay, once again, this is not accurate. Pandas do not live in Japan. This particular photo is from China in 2008, I think.
Fuck. No journalism.
(But what about zoos?)

The Copy Editor: Japan Now
I am a Japanese 24year old, living in Tokyo.
The earthquakes occurred in two prefectures. Miyagi and Ibaragi. Both prefectures are placed in northern Japan, both facing the pacific ocean. Both points had a 8.8 magnitude earthquake. It seems there is a massive blackout in northern Japan.

In Tokyo, all transportation systems are down except the buses. People are making Google “shelter in Tokyo” maps for those who have no way to reach their homes. Some subways started to move again right now. Still there are many aftershocks. I can feel little earthquakes. It feels as if I’m on a boat.
I saw on twitter that some CNN anchors were laughing as they read about this news. Also saying a joke “flooded with tweets” “it’s like Godzilla attacking”.
I haven’t seen the video of CNN, so I think it’s not right to comment something about it. However, it is true. Twitter was flooded with enormous amounts of tweets. Some said about the news, about their feelings, what to do, how to care injures, what it’s like around them….. Many tweets were flooding. Many people were panicked, I was too. Cell phones were not usable, we couldn’t call nor text.
I do understand the feeling of the CNN anchors. I know it is hard to feel the reality when something is occurring on the other side of the world, some Asian island that they’ve never been to.
But in reality, many people still aren’t in touch with their family, many people are injured, many people are trapped somewhere, and many people died. I wish the anchors said those jokes when they were off the record.
I apologize for the not good English, I suppose it was hard to read. I just wanted to be one of the real voices from Japan. Even the News aren’t much reliable these days. Thank you for the #prayforjapan tags on twitter.
